I have just returned from a trip to New York where I spent a week with my boyfriend, Alex. It was our first trip to the city so as you can imagine we were excited to do everything and see everything in typical tourist fashion! This trip was my first holiday since changing my lifestyle and diet to a clean eater, I wanted to be able to let loose and not watch what I ate but I was a little wary that all the amazing american food on offer in NYC would knock me completely off my fitness goals and set me back. The first couple of days we ate Pizza, burgers and pancakes and I was feeling fatigued so I did a little research into healthy eating restaurants in New York and we made it our mission for the rest of the trip to eat a mixture of clean meals and cheat meals. 

I wanted to share my reviews of the amazing places we ate healthy food from. If you are planning a trip to New York and want to keep your diet on track (as best you can) and want quick healthy food check out these places:

Fresh & Co

We stumbled upon this one day, I googled it and found it was an NYC chain of restaurants using fresh ingredients. They sell a selection of fresh soups, sandwiches, salads (you can build your own) and grain bowls (brown rice or quinoa). I had a grain bowl with quinoa and Alex had a steak sandwich on wholegrain bread. Fresh & Co is very casual and is open for breakfast or lunch, you can eat in or takeaway. Chelsea Market

There are so many little salad bars and juice shops within Chelsea Market. We ate from Hale and Hearty and got the chicken avocado salad which was packed with chicken and had cranberries and walnuts in it (see below). They did little protein boxes too which looked yummy. I loved this place as they use fresh seasonal vegetables and still retain reasonable prices we had our dinner here on our last night. They have four restaurants West, East Chelsea and Hudson. The salads will set you back about $12, they do a selection of seasonal dishes that allow you to choose your side veg from a selection of 'market vegetables' we had asparagus which was cooked perfectly. Whole Foods Market

A chain supermarket/grocery store for healthy whole foods, there are around 5 in New York. We brought wholewheat bagels and organic peanut butter from here for our breakfasts. There is so much choice here, they have a salad bar, a hot food bar, sushi bar and juice bar. For a quick meal simply fill up a box which is weighed at the checkout and priced accordingly - it can therefore be pricey if you get carried away when hungry! For dinner one night I had spicy chicken, brown rice and sweet kale with cranberries. Although an american chain, there is also a Whole Foods Market at Piccadilly Circus in London. Juice Generation

Again another NYC exclusive chain - a juice bar serving fresh juices, smoothies, acai bowls and healthy baked goods. I had the Almond Butter Bliss acai bowl (pictured below) which was amazing but set me back $11! I am determined to make one of these myself as I'm sure they don't need to be as expensive as that! We loved the acai bowl so much that we decided to find somewhere that sold them for cheaper, we found Liquiteria - a small chain in NYC that sells smoothies, juices and acai bowls at the slightly cheaper price of around $8 For more info visit http://www.liquiteria.com/



I'm sure there are plenty more restaurants for clean eating in NYC so please feel free to comment and leave suggestions of places to go for myself and others, I'm already planning my next trip :)

      It’s really easy and cost free, my advice – look on youtube as there are tons of videos on how to set up a blog all by yourself
